What bends first when you go into a squat? Your knees? Your hips? Your low back? When we squat, we move from a standing position into triple flexion--which means the hips, knees, and ankles are bent and the weight is evenly distributed equally across the hips, knees, and ankles. If you don't bend at the hip and you just bend the knees first, you can bend the knees and ankles in the squat but eventually you may run out of room or try to borrow motion from the low back to get deeper in the squat.
