The National Weather Service has issued winter storm watches for parts of 8 New Jersey counties where the heaviest snow is expected Sunday.

A winter storm is set to bring at least several inches of snow to the New York City area with some parts of northern New Jersey and Connecticut set up for more than six inches of snow. The snow is expected to start in New York City on Sunday morning.

A winter storm watch will be in effect Sunday for much of eastern Pennsylvania, including the Poconos. In Carbon and Monroe counties, 6 to 10 inches of snow is possible, the National Weather Service said Friday afternoon when issuing the watch. For Pike and Wayne counties, 5 to 9 inches is possible, the NWS said.

Eight counties in New Jersey are under a winter storm watch, because of the possibility of heavy snow and dangerous road conditions

The snow forecast may be somewhat up in the air, but one thing is for sure: Any snow that falls will not be melting next week.

A winter weather advisory was issued by the NWS Blacksburg VA on Saturday at 4:15 a.m. valid from Sunday 7 a.m. until Monday 7 a.m.

A winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 3 a.m. valid from Sunday 10 a.m. until Monday 1 a.m. for Susquehanna and Wyoming counties.

The National Weather Service had multiple states under winter weather advisories or winter storm warnings early on Friday.

On Saturday at 3:56 a.m. a winter weather advisory was issued by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC valid from Sunday 7 a.m. until Monday 7 a.m.

The NWS has warned of possible snow squalls as Arctic air spreads south and east from the Rockies Friday through next week.
