The Iowa State women’s basketball team’s first game of the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off offered the Cyclones an early-season opportunity to take down one of the best teams in the country.

The 15th-ranked Iowa State women had no answer for defending national champion South Carolina on Thanksgiving Thursday, falling 76-36. Behind a 32-0 run in the first half, the No. 4 Gamecocks dominated in this Elevance Health Fort Myers Women’s Tio-Off contest,

Joyce Edwards and Sania Feagin led South Carolina with 13 points apiece. Edwards also had a team-high 11 rebounds. The Gamecocks limited Iowa State to 23% shooting (12 of 52) and the defensive pressure led to 19 turnovers. South Carolina will Purdue on Saturday (11 a.m., The Women Sports Network) at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
