Bail hearing for Hindu leader in Bangladesh postponed for a month due to lawyer unavailability, triggering protests and security measures.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, an expelled Iskcon monk, was arrested on November 25 at Dhaka airport on charges of sedition for allegedly disrespecting Bangladesh’s national flag during a rally in October. The rally was organized by the Bangladesh Sanmilito Sanatani Jagoron Jot, a coalition advocating for the rights of Bangladeshi Hindus.

Protests against Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest and the atrocities on religious minorities in Bangladesh continued on Wednesday in Tripura, where an angry mob recently vandalised the premises of the neighbouring country’s Assistant High Commission.

The bail hearing for Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu priest accused of sedition in Bangladesh, has been postponed to January 2, 2025, due to the absence of lawyers. ISKCON said that his previous lawyer was attacked and was in the ICU in serious condition.

Das, who served as a spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested at Dhaka International Airport last Monday over a sedition case.
