While attempting an undercover inspection of the mayor's gift room, investigators were denied access to a log of gifts that is supposed to be publicly available.

A report released Wednesday found Johnson’s office violated a policy requiring mayors to record gifts above $50 and “accepted on behalf of the City” in a publicly available log.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said he never saw the room referred to by the Office of the Inspector General as the "gift room," where luxury gifts were stored.
