Maple Leafs General manager Brad Treliving said following Tuesday’s practice that Auston Matthews, out day-to-day since Nov. 5 with an undisclosed upper-body injury, is in Germany to see a doctor the star center has worked with in the past.

For the first time since leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup on Nov. 3, Auston Matthews addressed the media on Saturday. Matthews, having returned from Europe where he went had his mysterious injury treated in Germany, offering some insights into the problems that have sidelined him for nearly three weeks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been without captain Auston Matthews for the last several games, as he’s been dealing with an upper-body ailment. He’s also sought treatment overseas in Germany and has resumed skating with a goal of getting back into the lineup sooner than later.

Matthews’ update undoubtedly provides welcome news for Leafs fans curious about his return. Matthews travelled to Germany for “about five days” to see a doctor to aid in his recovery. The Leafs centre described the doctor as, “Somebody that I’ve seen in the past who is very smart and has been around for a long time.”
