Rep. Adam Schiff quickly soared to victory in California’s U.S. Senate race Tuesday, coming out ahead of former Dodgers star Steve Garvey. The contest was called by the Associated Press and other news organizations as soon as the polls closed in California.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that Steve Garvey and former Dodgers teammate Tommy John are two of eight candidates on this year’s Classic Baseball Era ballot.

Garvey, a Republican, and Schiff, a Democrat, vied for the seat long held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who died in September 2023. Sen. Laphonza Butler, who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Gavin Newsom, decided not to run for it.
