The Montgomery Veterans Affairs Hospital temporarily went into lockdown Wednesday and launched an active shooter investigation at the Perry Hill Road facility after being informed of a threat by a former patient, authorities said.

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Montgomery is asking the public to avoid Montgomery VA Hospital amid an active threat investigation Wednesday.

No weapon was found after multiple news reports of an active shooting at the Montgomery VA Hospital and a lockdown of the facility on Wednesday, officials said. Chief of Staff Chip Hill said he has spoken with police leadership and they assured him that no one on site was found with a gun.

A veteran on a suicide prevention line threatened to shoot hospital officials and then himself, police said. No injuries were reported.
