As many as 36 people died on Monday as a bus fell into a deep trench along river Geet Jagir near Marchula in district Almora, more than 250 kilometres from Dehradun.

Upon receiving news of the accident, five ambulances, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Almora police, arrived at the location to aid in relief and rescue efforts. Instructions have also been issued to airlift critically injured passengers if necessary.
