The Jharkhand assembly election has made history with the highest number of women MLAs ever elected. The JMM-led coalition retains power, showcasing a significant shift in representation and a better women’s political participation in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Champai Soren won the Jharkhand Assembly polls from the Seraikela constituency on Saturday by 20,447 votes. The former chief minister has served five terms as the MLA from Seraikela. He secured 1,19,379 of the total votes counted.

Hemant Soren will be sworn in as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand, a decision taken by JMM and its INDIA bloc allies, day after securing a stunning victory in the Jharkhand Assembly Elections, the results of which were announced Saturday.

The Soren family consolidates its political power with three victories in the 2024 assembly elections. Sita Soren, who contested on a BJP ticket, is the only family member to face defeat.
