Dickies, the iconic workwear manufacturer founded in Fort Worth more than century ago, is moving headquarters to California. The move will impact about 120 employees in Fort Worth, but Dickies will still maintain a “strong employment presence” here.

Fort Worth city leaders were blindsided by the announcement Thursday by Dickies’ parent company that it was moving the storied brand’s headquarters to California.

Dickies, a storied 102-year-old Fort Worth-based clothing company specializing in tough workwear, is leaving Cowtown for the West Coast.

Dickies is moving its headquarters from Fort Worth, Texas, to Costa Mesa, California, impacting about 120 jobs.

The move to California will have no impact on the naming rights of Dickies Arena, said Whitney Blake, a spokesperson for Trail Drive Management in an email to the Star-Telegram. Trail Drive is a nonprofit contracted with the city of Fort Worth to operate the arena.

Denver-based VF Corp., which owns Dickies along with other apparel brands such as The North Face, announced the Dickies brand headquarters is moving to an existing campus the company maintains in Costa Mesa, outside of Irvine, that is home to Vans, VF's skateboarding apparel brand.

Dickies was sold in 2017 for $820 million to VF Corporation, a branded apparel company. They have announced Thursday they are moving Dickies to Costa Mesa, California.
