Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops announced a quarterback change Monday: Freshman Cutter Boley will start Saturday afternoon versus Louisville.

Kentucky has a new starting quarterback ahead of their season finale this weekend. Mark Stoops announced on Monday that Cutter Boley, the true freshman, will be the Wildcats’ QB1 against Louisville in the Governor’s Cup on Saturday.

Cutter Boley got thrown to the wolves at Texas. Facing the second-ranked defense in the nation, in front of 100,000 people while trailing 17 points, the true freshman didn’t flinch. He’s being rewarded with his first career start against Louisville in the Governor’s Cup.

Head coach mark Stoops announced during his weekly press conference that freshman QB Cutter Boley will start Saturday’s season finale against Louisville. Boley Saw action against Texas last week and though he didn’t exactly fill the stat sheet, there were signs of promise from the young QB.

Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson briefly gave Kentucky hope though by returning a Quinn Ewers fumble 25 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 10 with 2:41 left in the third quarter, but Texas ended that hope with an 8-minute fourth quarter touchdown drive.

Kentucky must win at Texas and against Louisville in the regular-season finale to extend its eight-year bowl streak. That prospect already looks remote, but with postseason play technically still possible can Stoops and Hamdan afford to start Boley at Texas considering how he looked in his only SEC experience to date?
