Nvidia says its new AI music editor can create “sounds never heard before” — like a trumpet that meows. The tool, called Fugatto, is capable of generating music, sounds, and speech using text and audio inputs it’s never been trained on.

Researchers have developed an AI audio generator that they claim can create sounds that have never been heard before. The new generative artificial intelligence model, called Fugatto, was built by a team at computer chip giant Nvidia who wanted to create a “Swiss Army knife for sound”.

From meowing trumpets to barking saxophones, Nvidia’s latest AI music editor is pushing the boundaries of audio creativity.

Nvidia's new model was trained on open-source data, and the company said it is still debating whether and how to release it publicly.

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) unveiled a new AI model called Fugatto for generating music and audio, aimed at people producing music, films and video games. Fugatto (Foundational Generative Audio Transformer Opus) generates or transforms any mix of music,

"We wanted to create a model that understands and generates sound like humans do," said Rafael Valle, one of the researchers behind the project and a manager of applied audio research at NVIDIA. The company listed some possible real-world scenarios wherein Fugatto could be of use in its announcement.
