The Phoenix PD lieutenant who ran the city’s controversial protest response team claimed that he has never read the Department of Justice report that found many problems with how his team operated.
The Phoenix Police Department has not had a permanent police chief since Jeri Williams retired in the summer of 2022.
The next chief will oversee a $981 million budget and more than 2,500 officers with plans to grow the department.
A national search is underway to find Phoenix’s next police chief. The city expects to have three finalists who will take questions from the community during a public forum in March.
