A stampede broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Wednesday (). The incident occurred as crores of people went to the Triveni Sangam for a ‘Amrit Snan’ (holy dip) on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

Multiple people were killed in a crowd crush at the world’s largest religious gathering in India early Wednesday, as tens of millions of devotees went to bathe in a river on one of the most sacred days of a Hindu festival.

Crores of devotees flocked to Triveni Sangam for Mauni Amavasya, however, a stampede broke out which led to several casualties.
