The Canadian government has opted for a direct indictment in the case against four Indian nationals accused of killing Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, bypassing pre-trial proceedings in the Surrey Provincial Court. This decision moves the case directly to trial at the Supreme Court in New Westminster, according to reports.

A direct indictment bypasses an important stage where the accused's defense counsel would have the opportunity to cross-examine prosecution witnesses and discover the case against their client before the actual trial begins.

Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Amandeep Singh—accused of killing pro-Khalistan figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar has been moved from the Surrey provincial court to the British Columbia Supreme Court.

This decision comes after pre-trial proceedings in the Surrey Provincial Court were stayed, meaning the case will now proceed directly to the Supreme Court.

Their next appearance will be on February 11, 2025, for a case management conference and scheduling of the pretrial applications.
