The Lunar New Year, a cherished celebration marking the arrival of spring and ushering in the New Year in several cultures around the world, is set to bring in the Year of the Snake on January 29, 2025.

Our New Year's celebrations aren't over just yet. Lunar New Year starts on January 29th (the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar) and continues until the Lantern Festival on February 12th, throughout which time many East Asian cultures will fête the Year of the Snake.

Get ready to celebrate. The Lunar New Year is just around the corner. The holiday, which marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring, begins on Jan. 29 and runs through Feb. 12. According to Chinese astrology, this is the Year of the Wood Snake. People born under this sign are considered to be cautious, mysterious, charming and wise.

Uwajimaya, an Asian grocery store chain with a location in Beaverton, will host a traditional Lion Dance performance for Lunar New Year. The festive celebration promises luck and fortune for the new year and invites attendees to bring friends and family.

Lunar New Year begins on Jan. 29. Many Asian Canadian families will welcome the Year of the Snake with “lucky money” and these other traditions.

Colorado Springs is celebrating the Chinese New Year. While the New Year officially happens on Jan. 29, there will be a community celebration at the Ent Center of The Arts at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday,
