The European Union’s competition regulator has formally closed probes into Amazon, Starbucks and Fiat’s European tax cases after court defeats., bringing an end to three of its attempts to crack down

In 2015 and 2017, the Commission found that Luxembourg granted selective tax advantages to Fiat and Amazon, and the Netherlands to Starbucks, in breach of EU state aid rules. These decisions, however, were all annulled by the EU courts.

Amazon won’t need to pay the European Union €250 million ($263 million) in back taxes. On Wednesday, the bloc’s executive branch said it was closing three separate state aid investigations, including one involving Amazon.
