Swiss group IQAir, which draws data from 14 regional monitoring stations, rated Lahore the world's most polluted city on Wednesday, with an air quality index (AQI) score of 1165, more than 120 times the levels recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Data from the provincial government and Swiss group IQAir showed that on Sunday, Lahore topped the real-time list of the world’s most polluted cities, following its highest recorded pollution levels near the Pakistan-India border on Saturday.

In light of the worsening pollution crisis, Lahore's administration has also taken a few emergency steps. Primary schools in several cities have been closed for a week, with parents advised to make their children wear masks.

Not Delhi but Pakistan's Lahore has become the world's most polluted city with an Air Quality Index of 1,900 on Sunday, which is its highest ever.
