Production at a key Samsung Electronics plant in southern India was disrupted by hundreds of employees striking for higher wages on Tuesday, as top executives sought to resolve a rare episode of labor unrest.

On Monday, the Tamil Nadu police detained over hundred workers from various parts of Sriperumbudur and Kancheepuram, including Muthukumar, who were planning for an unauthorised march to the Kanchipuram collectorate.

The strike in Samsung India follows recent wage protests in South Korea where 36,500 members from its biggest workers' union went on strike in July and August.
