The West Bengal government has appealed to the Calcutta High Court for the death penalty for Sanjoy Roy, convicted in the RG Kar hospital doctor's rape and murder case, after the trial court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday opposed the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government's appeal for the death penalty to Sanjay Roy, the convict in the RG Kar rape and murder case.
