NEW YORK - Harlem will host thousands Sunday for the 55th Annual African-American Day Parade in New York City. Each year, the parade brings together bands and dancers, youth groups and local leaders to celebrate Harlem's history as a beacon for Black people around the world.

Thousands of revelers came out for the 55th African American Day Parade (AADP) in Harlem on Sunday.

Attorney General Letitia James, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and City Councilman Yusef Salaam are a few others who are attending the parade. The parade goes back 55 years, all the way to 1969, making it one of the country's most historic African American parades.

A big celebration in Harlem at the African American Day Parade Sunday Afternoon. For more than five decades, the parade has focused on showcasing positive representation of the African American community.

Before the 55th annual African American Day kicked off the 22nd Breakfast celebration at the Harlem Tavern, Keith Wright and Deneane Brown-Blackmon hosted the Awards and Scholarship presentation. The African American Day Parade was held on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and chaired by Yusuf Hasan.

Just a month after being shot five times in the leg, Dezinier Haskins was able to drum in The African American Day Parade.
