Improved playing facilities at pitches used by East Belfast GAA have been approved by councillors on the same day a second security alert in 24 hours was found to be a hoax. The second security alert within a day in the Church Road area of the east of the city ended on Wednesday morning after a public safety operation was carried out when a suspicious object was found at around 1pm on Wednesday.

Police have confirmed they are back at the scene of a new security alert at the playing fields on Church Road, the home of East Belfast GAA.

A security alert at the Henry Jones playing fields in east Belfast has ended. Police said a suspicious object which was found on Tuesday evening turned out to be nothing untoward. Church Road was closed on Tuesday evening between Manse Road and Marlborough Heights after the object was found.
