The department says the officer saw the teen with a loaded gun before firing. The suspect, since identified as 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker, later died at the hospital.

A suspect was fatally shot by an Akron police officer late Thursday night after officers responded to gunfire near East Avenue and Vernon Odom Blvd.

Officers were called to the area for an unrelated report but while they were there, officers heard gunshots and left their vehicle to investigate.
