My family with our dogs made a quick trip to see the Waterfront Park area. It was beautiful, and it looked safe with security walking around. Full review by tamis604

As a kid this area was an industrial wasteland. Now it’s hard to recognize this city. Louisville has come a long way with improving the riverfront area. This is also the area where they have the Wedn… Full review by Joe B

Thunder is, I am told, the largest fireworks display in the US. It is really incredible, especially when viewed from the nearby Waterfront. It is preceded by an afternoon air show, with lots of interesting planes (often including a stealth bomber, which is just incredible to see). There are several alternative ways to see Thunder. Most people -- and the crowds are indeed enormous -- bring picnic blankets and folding chairs to the waterfront, and arrive early to stake out their territory. Nearby restaurants with a suitable view charge hundreds of dollars for a table. The disadvantage of viewing from the waterfront is getting home afterwards. We live in Louisville and it took us three hours to get home, since traffic is intense and routed in the wrong direction for us. An alternative, mentioned by another person, is to rent a downtown hotel room for the night. Some people watch from a boat, although that can be dangerous because there are lots of boats and lots of alcohol consumption (causing at least one death that I know of). Watching from upriver is possible but still inconvenient, since lots of people do that. I suspect that watching from upriver is less satisfactory that watching on TV. Finally, if you plan to book a hotel room or a restaurant table, book as early as you can, since I'm sure demand is high.
