Started using the Bakaert 14 gauge high tensile barbed wire in place of the standard 12.5 gauge regular barbed wire. It stretches up tighter and stays tight and has way more strength and substance to it than the Gaucho. gooberland.

Security of tried-&-true barbed wire, with the flex and wider post spacing of HT. I've got to run 2000+ ft of perimeter fencing through trees.

WEBJun 23, 2006 · Roll of barbed wire is 1320' long and costs maybe $50. That would be around $.04 a foot, times 8 strands, equals $.32 a foot for the wire. Cheaper than panels. Personally, I prefer 6 strands of barbed wire on interior fences, and field fence with 1 or 2 barbed strands on top for perimeter fencing.

The bottom wire is 14" to 16" off the ground and the top is 34" to 36". It's very rare that a calf will go through the fence. The deer go over and the fawns go under.
